What is Amicus and how does it work?
Amicus is a platform designed to provide affordable, accessible legal services, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). We offer a variety of legal support services through a user-friendly chatbot interface.
How It Works:
Chat Interface:
Start by explaining your needs to our chatbot, which understands and assesses your legal needs.
Document Generation:
Our expert-system based document generation platform will create tailored legal documents, such as contracts and agreements, straight from the chat interface.
Legal Guidance:
Our chat will offer guidance on a number of legal issues; applying relevant laws to the your situation.
Optional Lawyer Review:
Our AI is great for creating legal documentation and getting you the information you need to understand your rights. But we know that sometimes, when faced with difficult or emotional challenges, you need to hear from real a person. For added assurance, users can opt to have information and documentation reviewed by specialized lawyers for a fee.
On-Demand Services:
The platform operates on a pay-as-you-go or subscription basis, providing flexibility to businesses. This system ensures that SMEs can access necessary legal services efficiently and at a fraction of the traditional cost.
Why not just use Chat GPT?
Amicus offers specialized legal services tailored specifically for SMEs, making it more reliable than a general AI like ChatGPT. Here are the key reasons:
Expert Context:
Our AI is always fed up-to-date South African legal texts, case law, and regulatory frameworks specific to your requirements, in every conversation. Unlike ChatGPT and other AI tools, Amicus isn't making up answers "from memory". Amicus has the relevant laws in front of it during the conversation. It's like the difference between an open-book test and a closed-book test. Amicus won't just make things up when it can't remember the answer. It will look for the answer. And we make sure to give it the right documents to find the answer in.
Guidance:
It's an unfortunate fact of life that a big part of being able to get the right information comes down to being able to ask the right questions. When navigation completely unfamiliar territory, it can be difficult to know what to ask or even where to start at all. AIs like ChatGPT will always just try to answer you no matter what, even if crucial context and information is missing and even when there may be alternative possibilities that you aren't at all aware of. It's like if you were to go to a doctor with a viral infection and ask for antibiotics. AI like ChatGPT will give you an antibiotic. AI like Amicus would, in this hypothetical, let you know that antibiotics only work for bacterial infections, and explain the options that actually best suit your problem. We have architected Amicus to guide you through complex and difficult questions. Amicus will prompt you to provide the context needed to apply the law, and provide a range of suggestions and possibilties. This way, the information you recieve is actually the information you require.
Document Accuracy:
Amicus' document generation platform is not based on GPT or any other LLMs or "machine learning" models. It is an expert-system style program that has been meticulously instructed in exactly how to generate legally sound documents. We only use LLMs to help answer questions you may have about the terms in the document.
Lawyer Integration:
Some people say that AI will replace lawyers within a matter of months. Other people say that AI will never be able to do any of the work that lawyers do. We think both arguments are wrong. Large Language Models have an unquestionable value in searching for information and translating information into understandable language and in interacting with people. On these tasks, they are miles ahead of traditional search tools. But we understand their limitations as well. And we understand that in emotionally challenging times, often what you really need is a person. For additional assurance, Amicus offers review by specialized lawyers.
Up to Date:
Amicus is always fed the latest laws in every consultation, ensuring that it is always up-to-date. ChatGPT and similar services are months or years out of date by design.
